Ujjain to Trimbakeshwar distance is about 490-515 km by road, or roughly 7.3-9.3 hours of driving before halts, with one outlier source at 688 km. The route described for Indore-start trips runs via Indore, Dhule and Nashik, so plan an overnight stay or a very early start.
Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple is in Maharashtra, and many pilgrims add it to a Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga visit in Ujjain because both are jyotirlingas. This guide explains why the published distances differ, walks the route in legs, budgets drive time and shows what an Ujjain outstation taxi costs in per-km arithmetic. The cost figures are estimates from our published rates, never a quote.
We compared the figures on three public pages on 6 October 2026. Two agree within about 25 km and one is far off.
| Source | Distance | Time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rome2rio (Ujjain to Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple) | 488.8 km | about 7 h 18 min by car | Aggregator estimate |
| Yatra (distance page) | 514 km | 9 h 18 min | Travel portal; lists a flight distance of 428 km, which is not a road figure |
| tourtravelworld.com | 688 km | about 12 h | Outlier; we do not recommend planning on it |
The 25 km gap between Rome2rio and Yatra most likely comes from different start points in Ujjain, different road choices and different end points near Trimbak. That is our reasoning; the sites do not explain it. One cross-check is arithmetic: a temple-linked page puts Indore to Trimbak at about 453 km, and 514 minus 453 leaves roughly 60 km for the Ujjain to Indore leg, which fits the Yatra figure, although that page also quotes 543 km, so treat this only as a rough check. Treat 490-515 km as the planning range and ask your driver which start and end point a quote assumes.
In practice, use the two ends of the range for two different jobs. Budget cost on the higher figure of about 515 km each way, so you are not surprised by the bill, and plan time on the 7-9 hour driving range, so you are not surprised by the clock. If a driver quotes a distance well outside 490-515 km, ask what start and end point it is based on.
The 688 km, 12-hour figure from tourtravelworld.com is about 170 km above the next highest number. The page does not explain it, so we treat it as an outlier. If a cab quote implies close to 700 km, ask which route it assumes before you accept it.
The route below comes from a temple-linked guide for travellers starting in Indore, plus Wikipedia on the highway. It is the route described for Indore-start trips and in our Shirdi guide, not a claim about what every driver uses from Ujjain. The Ujjain to Indore to Dhule to Malegaon stretch is covered in detail in our Ujjain to Shirdi by road guide, so we focus here on the finish into Nashik and Trimbak.
| Leg | Towns named in sources | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ujjain to Indore | Ujjain, Indore | Madhya Pradesh |
| Indore to Dhule | Pitampura, Sendhwa, Shivpuri, Dhule | Described as the Indore-Agra National Highway, which Wikipedia lists as NH 52 with Indore, Sendhwa and Dhule among its major cities |
| Dhule to Nashik | Malegaon, Manmad, Nashik | Maharashtra; Wikipedia does not list Malegaon on NH 52, so we make no claim about the road number here |
| Nashik to Trimbak | Nashik, Trimbak | About 28-30 km |
This opening leg runs from Ujjain to Indore, both in Madhya Pradesh. We do not quote a separate Ujjain to Indore distance here; use the Shirdi guide linked above for that stretch and the one beyond it.
The temple-linked guide for Indore-start travellers names Pitampura, Sendhwa, Shivpuri and Dhule on this stretch and describes the road as the Indore-Agra National Highway. Wikipedia lists NH 52 with Indore, Sendhwa and Dhule among its major cities, which fits the towns the guide names.
After Dhule the guide lists Malegaon, Manmad and Nashik. We do not give a road number for this stretch, since Wikipedia does not confirm Malegaon on NH 52. This is the last long leg before the short run to Trimbak.
Wikipedia puts Trimbakeshwar about 28 km from Nashik city, and also gives 30 km by road. Plan on about 28-30 km for the final stretch.
The temple-linked guide suggests a stop about every 2.5-3 hours for around 30 minutes. We applied that to the two drive-time estimates to build a rough budget between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
| Leg | Approx. time | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Driving, shorter estimate | about 7 h 18 min | Rome2rio |
| Driving, longer estimate | about 9 h 18 min | Yatra |
| Halts (about 30 min every 2.5-3 h) | about 1-1.5 h | Our arithmetic from the temple-linked guide |
| Door to door, one way | about 8-11 h | Our arithmetic, before darshan time |
| Same-day round trip | about 17-22 h on the road | Twice the one-way figure; not realistic for most groups |
A one-way day is realistic if you leave from Ujjain very early, so that you reach Nashik and Trimbak with daylight left. A same-day return is not sensible: the arithmetic above comes to a day of 17-22 hours of driving and halts, excluding darshan time. We do not have darshan timings, queue lengths or dress-code details from a verified source, so check those with the temple before you travel. Plan to stay overnight in Nashik or Trimbak, or break the drive at a halt on the way.
A realistic pattern is to drive one way on day one, visit the temple the next morning and drive back afterwards. Even then, the return is another long driving day of about 8-11 hours door to door, so a group with limited leave may prefer to add a second night. Because Nashik is only about 28-30 km from Trimbak, it is the natural base for the overnight stay, and Nashik Road railway station is the nearest rail hub if someone in the group needs to travel separately.
Cab pricing for an outstation run is usually built from kilometres, so the useful question is how many kilometres you will be charged for.
At about 490-515 km each way, a round trip is about 980-1,030 km. Rome2rio shows taxi estimates of Rs 8,000-10,000 on one line and Rs 5,500-8,000 for driving on another line of the same page, so its own page is not consistent. We use per-km arithmetic from our published rates instead.
The table multiplies 980-1,030 km by the per-km rates on our taxi page as of 6 October 2026. We also show the cost per seat, which assumes every seat is taken and is rounded.
| Vehicle | Seats | Per-km rate | Arithmetic for about 980-1,030 km | Per seat if full, and what to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Dzire or Hyundai Aura | 4 | Rs 9/km | Rs 8,820-9,270 | About Rs 2,205-2,318 per seat |
| Maruti Ertiga | 6 | Rs 9/km | Rs 8,820-9,270 | About Rs 1,470-1,545 per seat |
| Maruti Eeco Star | 6 | Rs 10/km | Rs 9,800-10,300 | About Rs 1,633-1,717 per seat |
| Chevrolet Tavera | 9 | Rs 13/km | Rs 12,740-13,390 | About Rs 1,416-1,488 per seat |
| Toyota Innova | 6 | Rs 14/km | Rs 13,720-14,420 | About Rs 2,287-2,403 per seat |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | 6 | Rs 17/km | Rs 16,660-17,510 | About Rs 2,777-2,918 per seat |
| Force Traveller | 14 | Rs 20/km | Rs 19,600-20,600 | About Rs 1,400-1,471 per seat |
These totals come before minimum kilometres, driver allowance, any night charge, tolls and parking. Our taxi page does not publish those, so confirm each in writing, and ask whether the quote covers the driver waiting at Trimbak. We do not know how many tolls the route has and do not give an amount. See our car rental in Ujjain guide for how to compare vehicle types.

| Item | Figure to plan on | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| One-way road distance | about 490-515 km | Rome2rio 488.8 km, Yatra 514 km |
| One-way driving time | about 7.3-9.3 h before halts | Rome2rio and Yatra |
| Round-trip kilometres for a cab | about 980-1,030 km | Twice the one-way range |
| Nashik to Trimbak | about 28-30 km | Wikipedia |
| Trimbak to Nashik Road railway station | about 39-40 km | Wikipedia |
Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple is in Nashik district, Maharashtra. According to the Wikipedia article on Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, it is about 28 km from Nashik city and about 40 km from Nashik Road railway station, with 39 km also given by road. It is one of the twelve jyotirlingas, as is Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain. Because the temple is in Maharashtra and Ujjain is in Madhya Pradesh, this is an interstate run, which is why the booking questions above matter.
The temple stands near the origin of the Godavari River, between three hills, namely Brahmagiri, Nilagiri and Kalagiri. Wikipedia names the Kusavarta kunda (sacred pond) in the temple premises and describes Kusavarta as a place where the Godavari takes its course. The temple has three lingas representing Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
The nearest rail hub is Nashik Road railway station, and tourtravelworld.com names Nashik Airport as the nearest airport. Rome2rio lists a bus to Nashik at about 11 hours 12 minutes. We do not give train names or numbers here, so check current services on NTES or IRCTC. A cab from Ujjain avoids the changes.
About 490-515 km. Rome2rio shows 488.8 km and Yatra shows 514 km. One site gives 688 km, which looks like an outlier, so ask which route and end point a cab quote assumes.
Roughly 7 h 18 min on Rome2rio and 9 h 18 min on Yatra, before halts. A temple-linked guide suggests a stop about every 2.5-3 hours, so door to door can reach about 11 hours.
We do not know what every driver uses. The route described for Indore-start trips is NH 52 via Sendhwa, Dhule, Malegaon, Manmad and Nashik. Ask your driver which route is planned.
A one-way day is possible with a very early start, but a same-day round trip means about 17-22 hours on the road by our arithmetic. Plan an overnight stay.
About 28-30 km from Nashik city per Wikipedia, and about 39-40 km from Nashik Road railway station.
Wikipedia gives Nashik Road railway station as the nearest, about 39-40 km away. Check current train services on NTES or IRCTC, because we do not list train names here.
