Ujjain to Bhojpur distance is about 218 km by road when Bhojpur means the Bhojeshwar Temple village in Raisen district near Bhopal, not Bhojpur in Bihar. The figure is a derivation: about 190 km from Ujjain to Bhopal on our usual route plus about 28 km from Bhopal to Bhojpur. Allow roughly 4.5 to 5 hours each way (estimate); a sedan at Rs 9/km works out to about Rs 1,960 one way before tolls.
Distances and times here are approximate and each one carries its source: our own Bhopal route page, the Raisen district administration page for Bhojeshwar Temple, and a travel planner cross-check. Fares are arithmetic from the per-km rates on our taxi page, not quotes. Temple opening hours, entry fee and parking are not published in the sources we checked, so we do not state them.
Type "Ujjain to Bhojpur" into a generic distance calculator and you may get a straight-line figure of about 1,248 km. That is Bhojpur in Bihar, a different place entirely; one widely used calculator resolves the name to coordinates in eastern Bihar and reports that figure. The Bhojpur that Ujjain pilgrims mean is the village in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, home to the 11th-century Bhojeshwar Temple and its giant Shiva lingam, about 28 km from Bhopal according to the district administration.
From Ujjain, the practical road route runs to Bhopal first and then out to Bhojpur. Our Bhopal route page puts Ujjain to Bhopal at about 190 km and about 3.5 hours by taxi; the Raisen district page puts Bhopal to Bhojpur at about 28 km. Add the two and you get about 218 km, which matches the road distance a travel planner shows for Ujjain to Bhojpur, Madhya Pradesh (about 218 km, with about 211 km as the shorter straight-line figure). We treat 218 km as a derived, approximate total rather than a measured one.
Because the trip crosses the Bhopal corridor, it fits naturally with our other temple day trips from Ujjain. An Ujjain outstation taxi is billed per kilometre by car class, and the same rates apply whether you return to Ujjain the same day or end the journey in Bhopal.
The table breaks the journey into its two legs with a source per row and the derived total. The Ujjain to Bhopal leg follows the route on our Bhopal page: out through Dewas, then Ashta and Sehore, with NH-52 carrying the Dewas stretch. Other cab sites quote the Ujjain to Bhopal distance at around 192 km via the Dewas-Bhopal road and up to 4.5 hours, so the 190 km / 3.5 hour figure is at the quicker end of what you may experience.
| Segment | Distance | Time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ujjain to Bhopal (via Dewas, Ashta, Sehore) | About 190 km | About 3.5 hours by taxi | Our Bhopal to Ujjain route page |
| Bhopal to Bhojpur (Bhopal-Raisen road) | About 28 km | Up to an hour depending on Bhopal traffic (estimate) | Raisen district administration, Bhojeshwar Temple page |
| Ujjain to Bhojpur, total | About 218 km (derived: 190 + 28) | Roughly 4.5 to 5 hours (estimate) | Sum of the two rows above |
| Cross-check | About 218 km road, about 211 km straight line | Not used | Travel planner snippet for Ujjain to Bhojpur, Madhya Pradesh |
The Bhopal to Bhojpur leg is short but passes through or around the city, so its time depends on when you reach Bhopal. We label the one-hour allowance an estimate because no source publishes a timing for that stretch; the district page gives the distance and the road (Bhopal-Raisen route) but no travel time. On the Ujjain side, the three towns on our route are the useful checkpoints: Dewas comes first, then Ashta, then Sehore before the Bhopal outskirts, so a driver who has reached Sehore is on the last third of the first leg.
Bhojeshwar Temple stands at Bhojpur village in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The district page says it was commissioned by Raja Bhoj in the 11th century and houses a Shiva lingam over 7.5 feet tall with a circumference of 17.8 feet. Wikipedia's article adds that construction is believed to have begun under Raja Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty, that the lingam is carved from three limestone blocks, and that the temple was abandoned unfinished, with the builders' architectural drawings still engraved on the surrounding rocks.
The monument is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India as a Monument of National Importance. The same article records a reservoir built on the Betwa River during Bhoja's reign, which places the temple in a landscape the Paramara kings engineered. Thousands of devotees visit on Maha Shivaratri, so if your Ujjain trip coincides with the festival, expect crowds at Bhojpur as well as at Mahakaleshwar.
For how to reach, the district page lists Raja Bhoj Airport at Bhopal (28 km from the temple) as the nearest airport, Bhopal Junction as the nearest railway station, and the Bhopal-Raisen road as the road approach, with state and private buses available. Opening hours, entry fee and parking charges are not on that page or on Wikipedia, so check locally before you leave Bhopal.
Our taxi page lists a per-kilometre rate for each car. The table multiplies those rates by about 218 km for one way and about 436 km for a same-day round trip. The results are estimates before tolls, driver allowance, night charges or any return-kilometre billing; none of those extras is stated on the rate card, so confirm them when you book.
| Car | Seats | Rate (Rs/km) | One way, about 218 km | Round trip, about 436 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Dzire | 4 | 9 | About Rs 1,960 | About Rs 3,920 |
| Hyundai Aura | 4 | 9 | About Rs 1,960 | About Rs 3,920 |
| Maruti Ertiga | 6 | 9 | About Rs 1,960 | About Rs 3,920 |
| Maruti Eeco Star | 6 | 10 | About Rs 2,180 | About Rs 4,360 |
| Chevrolet Tavera | 9 | 13 | About Rs 2,830 | About Rs 5,670 |
| Force Toofan | 14 | 13 | About Rs 2,830 | About Rs 5,670 |
| Toyota Innova | 6 | 14 | About Rs 3,050 | About Rs 6,100 |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | 6 | 17 | About Rs 3,710 | About Rs 7,410 |
| Force Traveller | 14 | 20 | About Rs 4,360 | About Rs 8,720 |
For a family of four, the Maruti Dzire is the obvious choice; for six with luggage, the Maruti Ertiga at the same Rs 9/km is better value than the Toyota Innova Crysta unless you want the extra comfort on a 9-to-10-hour driving day. Groups of nine or more should look at the Chevrolet Tavera, Force Toofan or Force Traveller. Rates are as published on our taxi page on 8 October 2026 and can change; the page shows the current rate card and the booking number +91 83190 07059.
The rate card on our taxi page gives only a per-kilometre figure and seating. It does not state toll charges, a driver allowance for a long day, night charges, a minimum kilometre count, or whether a one-way drop is billed for the empty return. Each of those can change the final bill on an outstation trip, so ask for them in writing when you book and compare the answer with the arithmetic in the table above. If an operator quotes a flat fare instead, check which of these items it includes, and whether the quoted kilometres match the about 218 km one-way or about 436 km round-trip figures derived above.
Also budget for your own costs at Bhojpur: any entry or parking fee, which we could not verify, and meals, since the village is small. Bhopal has the nearest full range of restaurants and fuel on the way back.
There are two sensible shapes for this trip, and the per-km billing makes the choice simple.
Same-day return to Ujjain. Leave Ujjain early, reach Bhopal in about 3.5 hours, continue to Bhojpur, spend an hour or two at Bhojeshwar Temple, and return. That is about 436 km and, by the estimates above, 9 to 10 hours of driving plus temple time, so start before dawn and expect to be back after dark. As an illustration built only on those estimates: leave Ujjain at 5 AM, reach the Bhopal outskirts around 8:30 AM, Bhojpur by about 9:30 AM, leave the temple by 11:30 AM and reach Ujjain between 4 and 5 PM if the roads behave; add an hour if you stop for lunch in Bhopal. Because the outbound road passes Dewas and Sehore, a stop at Dewas Tekri on the way out works well; see our Ujjain to Dewas Tekri guide for that detour.
Bhopal drop. If you are leaving the region by air or rail, end the trip in Bhopal instead of returning to Ujjain. Raja Bhoj Airport is 28 km from the temple and Bhopal Junction is the nearest railway station, per the district page, so the sequence Ujjain to Bhojpur to airport or station is about 218 km plus the short hop back into the city. One-way billing is about Rs 1,960 for a sedan before extras, but confirm whether the empty return to Ujjain is charged.
Pilgrims on the Sehore corridor sometimes pair this with the Salkanpur temple in Sehore district, about 70 km from Bhopal near Rehti according to our Salkanpur guide; our Ujjain to Salkanpur cab guide covers that route. We have not sourced a Bhojpur to Bhimbetka distance, so we leave that extension out until we can verify it.
Whichever plan you choose, book the car class that matches your group, keep the per-km arithmetic in hand when you confirm the fare, and treat every distance and time on this page as approximate until you are on the road.
About 218 km by road, derived from about 190 km Ujjain to Bhopal (our Bhopal route page) plus about 28 km Bhopal to Bhojpur (Raisen district page). A travel planner shows a similar road figure of about 218 km.
Bhojpur is the village in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh; Bhojeshwar Temple is the 11th-century Shiva temple in it, commissioned by Raja Bhoj. It is not Bhojpur in Bihar, which some distance calculators return for the same search.
Roughly 4.5 to 5 hours each way, as an estimate: about 3.5 hours Ujjain to Bhopal on our route via Dewas, Ashta and Sehore, plus up to an hour for the 28 km Bhopal to Bhojpur leg depending on city traffic.
Yes, but it is a long day: about 436 km and 9 to 10 hours of driving by our estimates, plus time at the temple. Start before dawn. If you are leaving by air or rail, a Bhopal drop at Raja Bhoj Airport or Bhopal Junction is shorter.
From our per-km rates: a Maruti Dzire or Ertiga at Rs 9/km is about Rs 1,960 one way or Rs 3,920 round trip; a Toyota Innova Crysta at Rs 17/km about Rs 3,710 one way. These are estimates before tolls, driver allowance, night charges and any return-km billing, which are not on the rate card; confirm when booking.
