Ujjain to Salkanpur cab trips cover about 235-250 km each way, roughly 4.5 hours of driving, so a one-day visit to Bijasan Mata Temple in Sehore district means about 470-500 km on the road. A cab is the practical choice, because trains and buses need a change at Bhopal.
Salkanpur is a village near Rehti, about 70 km from Bhopal, and the hilltop temple of Vindhyavasini Beejasan Devi is the reason pilgrims travel there from Ujjain. This guide reconciles the distance figures, shows the round-trip kilometres, compares public transport and lays out a one-day plan. Our Ujjain taxi service publishes per-km rates, and we use them below only as arithmetic, never as a quote.
No single official figure exists for the road distance between Ujjain and Salkanpur. Two commercial sources give slightly different numbers, and both land at roughly the same drive time. We checked them on 6 October 2026.
| Source | Distance | Drive time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gozo Cabs (taxi booking page) | about 235 km | about 4 h 31 min | Operator page for the Ujjain to Salkanpur route |
| distancesfrom.com (Salkanpur to Ujjain) | 250 km | 4 h 33 min driving | Distance aggregator |
| Rome2rio (Indore to Salkanpur, for comparison) | about 197 km | about 3 h 03 min | Aggregator estimate from Indore, not Ujjain |
The 15 km gap is small. The likely causes are different start points inside Ujjain and different road choices in the routing engine. That is our reasoning, not a published explanation. We have not named a specific highway because none of the sources we read names one, so let your driver or a navigation app choose the route on the day. For planning, use 235-250 km one way and about 4.5 hours.
Search results for this trip often show Salangpur Hanuman Temple, which is a different place in Gujarat. Rome2rio lists Ujjain to the Salangpur Hanuman temple at about 505 km and 7 hours by road, which is more than double the Salkanpur distance. If a quote or a map shows a figure near 500 km, check that the destination is Salkanpur in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, and not Salangpur.
If your trip starts in Indore rather than Ujjain, Rome2rio estimates about 197 km and 3 hours, with a taxi estimate of Rs 3,300-4,000. That is an aggregator figure for a different start point, so use it only to sense-check what you are quoted, not as a price for the Ujjain route.
A cab for a same-day visit has to drive to Salkanpur and back, so the paid distance is double the one-way figure.
At 235-250 km each way, the round trip is about 470-500 km. Carry that number into any per-km calculation: it is why a one-day cab costs far more than the one-way distance suggests.
The table below multiplies 470-500 km by the per-km rates published on our taxi page as of 6 October 2026. These are arithmetic estimates, not quotes.
| Vehicle | Seats | Per-km rate | Arithmetic for about 470-500 km round trip | Not included / confirm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Dzire or Hyundai Aura | 4 | Rs 9/km | Rs 4,230-4,500 | Minimum km, driver allowance, night charge, tolls, parking |
| Maruti Ertiga | 6 | Rs 9/km | Rs 4,230-4,500 | Same items as above |
| Maruti Eeco Star | 6 | Rs 10/km | Rs 4,700-5,000 | Same items as above |
| Chevrolet Tavera | 9 | Rs 13/km | Rs 6,110-6,500 | Same items as above |
| Toyota Innova | 6 | Rs 14/km | Rs 6,580-7,000 | Same items as above |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | 6 | Rs 17/km | Rs 7,990-8,500 | Same items as above |
| Force Traveller | 14 | Rs 20/km | Rs 9,400-10,000 | Same items as above |
Our taxi page does not state a minimum daily distance, driver allowance, night charge, toll or parking policy, so ask for each of these in writing before you confirm the booking.
For context, Gozo Cabs showed these indicative one-way fares for Ujjain to Salkanpur on 6 October 2026, before GST: Rs 3,487 for a compact car (Wagon R class), Rs 3,559 for a sedan (Dzire class), Rs 5,532 for a Sedan Value+, Rs 11,596 for a 12-seater Tempo Traveller and Rs 13,253 for a 15-seater. The page lists a reference rate of "From Rs 12.75/km" and asks you to confirm your trip quote, and it takes a 25% advance. It gives no firm inclusions list for these fares (its general FAQ says tolls are "most of the time" included for one-way service), so confirm inclusions yourself. A one-way fare and a same-day round trip are different products, so do not compare them directly with the table above.
If you are also planning a different outstation day trip, our guide to Ujjain to Maheshwar by taxi uses the same per-km method, and car rental in Ujjain explains vehicle choices.
There is no direct train or bus from Ujjain to Salkanpur. Rome2rio reports no direct bus or train even from Indore, and the temple sits in a village rather than at a station, so public transport always means a change and a final road leg.
The rail route runs through Bhopal Junction. The Bhopal-Ujjain Passenger (59320 from Bhopal, 59319 from Ujjain) runs daily over about 282 km, and Wikipedia gives the journey as roughly 4.5-5 hours because its own headline and timetable differ slightly. As listed on Wikipedia, train 59319 leaves Ujjain Junction in the evening, around 17:00, so it cannot get you to Salkanpur and back in a single day. Check the current timetable on NTES before you plan around any train. From Bhopal you still need about 70 km by road to reach the temple.
MP Tourism says buses run from Bhopal to Obedullaganj, and the temple is reached by a local connection from there. A bus journey from Ujjain is therefore a multi-leg trip with at least one change, and we have no fares or timings for it.
The two official sources do not agree on the nearest railhead and airport, which is another reason to plan the last leg by road:
| Item | Sehore district (NIC) | MP Tourism |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from Bhopal | 70 km, on the Bhopal-Nasrullaganj Road | about 70 km |
| Nearest railway station | Budni railway station, 15 km | Sehore, 91 km |
| Nearest airport | Raja Bhoj Airport, 70 km | Bhopal airport, 89 km |
Because these figures conflict, treat both as rough guides and confirm with the driver. For families, older pilgrims or anyone short on time, a cab removes the changes and lets you start before dawn. For a solo traveller who can spare two days, rail to Bhopal and a road leg onward can work, but the evening Ujjain departure means you will not be back the same day.
The Bijasan Mata Temple stands on an 800-foot hillrock in Salkanpur, near Rehti. Wikipedia describes it as a Siddhpeeth of Vindhyavasini Beejasan Devi, an incarnation of Durga, and the Sehore district site says a grand fair is held during Navratri.
Sources differ on the climb. Sehore district NIC says more than 1,000 steps, MP Tourism says about 1,000 stone steps, and Wikipedia says around 1,400. Plan for roughly 1,000-1,400 steps, which is a real climb for small children and older pilgrims.
Sehore district NIC says a ropeway is available, and MP Tourism says visitors can also use a road or the ropeway for a small fee. We have no reliable ropeway fare or operating hours, so confirm both at the base before you decide whether to climb or ride.
MP Tourism warns of heavy crowds during Navratri and mentions a Magh Mela in February. MP Tourism also says the temple is open from dawn until about 6 PM, while other websites give different hours, so treat the closing time as roughly 6 PM and arrive well before dusk. Avoid festival days if you want a short, calm visit and a predictable return.
A same-day return is possible but long, with about 9 hours of driving before any halt. The table is a planning budget built from the 4.5-hour drive time, not a timetable.
| Leg | Approx. time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ujjain to Salkanpur | about 4.5 h driving | Leave very early; add 20-30 minutes for a tea or meal halt |
| Climb or ropeway, darshan, descent | allow several hours (your estimate) | Depends on steps vs ropeway and crowd; not a sourced figure |
| Salkanpur to Ujjain | about 4.5 h driving | Leave in the afternoon so you are on the road before dark |
| Total day | about 9 h driving plus halts and temple time | A long day: 470-500 km round trip |
Avoid the peak Navratri days if you are travelling with children or elderly relatives, and avoid arriving after about 5 PM, because the temple may close near 6 PM. If you also want to see other stops such as Bhopal on the same trip, plan an overnight stay instead of squeezing everything into one day.

About 235-250 km one way. Gozo Cabs shows about 235 km and distancesfrom.com shows 250 km. The gap is probably due to different start points and routing, so use the range for planning.
Roughly 4.5 hours each way: about 4 h 31 min on the Gozo Cabs page and 4 h 33 min on distancesfrom.com. Add halts and allow for slower traffic during festivals.
No. Salkanpur is the Bijasan Mata Temple village in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh. Salangpur Hanuman Temple is in Gujarat, and Rome2rio lists it at about 505 km by road from Ujjain.
No direct train or bus is listed. The rail route is via Bhopal Junction, and the Bhopal-Ujjain Passenger 59319 leaves Ujjain in the evening per Wikipedia, so check NTES and plan a road leg of about 70 km from Bhopal.
Sources differ. Sehore district NIC says more than 1,000 steps, MP Tourism says about 1,000, and Wikipedia says around 1,400. A ropeway is also available; confirm its fare and hours locally.
Yes, but it is a long day of about 9 hours of driving and 470-500 km. Leave very early and be at the temple well before it closes, which MP Tourism puts at about 6 PM.
