The Ujjain to Udaipur distance is about 333 km by road, roughly six to six and a half hours of driving, and about 260 km by rail. The overnight Veer Bhumi Chittaurgarh Express covers the rail leg via Ratlam and Chittorgarh in roughly nine to ten hours. At our published sedan rate of Rs 9 per km, the one-way distance works out to about Rs 3,000 before tolls, driver allowance or any return-km billing.
This guide reconciles the different distance figures you will see online, names the corridor towns, prices every car class from the rates on our Ujjain outstation taxi page, and sets the taxi against the train so you can pick the right option for a trip from Madhya Pradesh into Rajasthan.
Ujjain and Udaipur sit about 262-263 km apart in a straight line, to the north-west. By road the figure most calculators agree on is 333 km: distancebetween2.com measures the drive at 332.785 km and estimates 6 hours 32 minutes at an average 50 km/h, while Holidify gives 333 km and 5 hours 37 minutes for the reverse direction. One trip planner, Wanderlog, shows 388 km and about 5 hours for a different routing, which is why you should treat every road figure as route-dependent and plan on six to six and a half hours of driving plus stops.
By rail the Ujjain Junction to Udaipur City railway station run is listed at about 261 km, which is shorter than the road because the railway cuts more directly through Ratlam and Chittorgarh. The train takes more hours but runs overnight, so it costs most travellers no daylight.
The table lists each published figure with its source so you can see where the spread comes from. All distances are approximate and were checked on 8 October 2026.
| Measure | Distance | Time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road (common routing) | About 333 km (332.785 km) | About 6 h 32 min at 50 km/h average | distancebetween2.com |
| Road (reverse direction) | About 333 km | About 5 h 37 min | Holidify (Udaipur to Ujjain) |
| Road (alternate planner routing) | About 388 km | About 5 h | Wanderlog; route-dependent planner figure |
| Rail (Ujjain Junction to Udaipur City) | About 261 km | About 9-10 h overnight | Train listings; Holidify shows the reverse leg at about 9 h 40 min |
| Straight line (aerial) | About 262.5-263 km | Not applicable | distancebetween2.com; Holidify |
The gap between 333 km and 388 km is not a measurement error; it is two different road choices between the same cities. The shorter figure is what most drivers and calculators use, and it is the one our cab estimates below are built on. If your driver proposes a longer routing for road quality or a stop, ask for the expected kilometre reading before you leave, because outstation cabs are billed per kilometre.
The only corridor that is documented end to end is the railway. Wikipedia's entry for the Veer Bhumi Chittaurgarh Express lists its halts, and from Ujjain the relevant ones in order are Ujjain Junction, Nagda, Ratlam Junction, Jaora, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Nimbahera, Chittaurgarh Junction, Mavli, Rana Pratap Nagar and Udaipur City. That string of towns is also the map for the drive: north-west out of Ujjain through Ratlam, Mandsaur and Neemuch, then into Rajasthan past Chittorgarh and on to Udaipur.
Road routes vary by planner, and no source opened for this guide names the exact highways, so we do not assert highway numbers here. What we can say is that road routings which pass Chittorgarh give you a natural break for a meal or a look at the town before the last stretch to Udaipur; ask the driver which routing he plans before you count on it. Ratlam is a shorter hop from Ujjain and is covered in our Ujjain to Ratlam taxi guide if you are breaking the journey early or dropping someone at Ratlam Junction.
Our outstation fleet is priced per kilometre, and the rates below are the ones published on our taxi page as of 8 October 2026. The one-way column is the rate multiplied by 333 km. The second column applies only if the operator bills return kilometres on a one-way drop (some operators do, because the car comes back empty); confirm which applies when you book.
| Car | Seats | Rate (Rs/km) | One-way estimate (333 km) | If return km billed (666 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Dzire (sedan) | 4 | 9 | About Rs 3,000 | About Rs 6,000 |
| Hyundai Aura (sedan) | 4 | 9 | About Rs 3,000 | About Rs 6,000 |
| Maruti Ertiga | 6 | 9 | About Rs 3,000 | About Rs 6,000 |
| Maruti Eeco Star | 6 | 10 | About Rs 3,330 | About Rs 6,660 |
| Chevrolet Tavera | 9 | 13 | About Rs 4,330 | About Rs 8,660 |
| Force Toofan | 14 | 13 | About Rs 4,330 | About Rs 8,660 |
| Toyota Innova | 6 | 14 | About Rs 4,660 | About Rs 9,320 |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | 6 | 17 | About Rs 5,660 | About Rs 11,320 |
| Force Traveller | 14 | 20 | About Rs 6,660 | About Rs 13,320 |
All figures are estimates before tolls, parking, driver allowance and any return-km billing; confirm the final quote when booking. For two to four people with normal luggage, the Maruti Dzire or Hyundai Aura is the value choice. A family of five or six with bags should take the Maruti Ertiga rather than squeeze into a sedan for six hours. Groups who want the most comfortable six hours on the road pick the Toyota Innova Crysta; for a temple group of ten or more the Force Traveller is the only option that keeps everyone in one vehicle.
Our taxi page publishes the per-km rate and seat count by car and a phone number, and little else. It does not state tolls, a daily driver allowance, night charges, a minimum kilometre count per day, or whether a one-way drop is billed as return kilometres. Those items are set when you book and vary with the trip, so none of them is quoted here. Before you confirm an Ujjain to Udaipur cab, ask for each of the following in the quote:
The kilometre basis is the biggest swing in the bill. A one-way drop billed on 333 km in a Maruti Dzire is about Rs 3,000 at Rs 9 per km; the same drop billed on return kilometres is about Rs 6,000. A genuine round trip, Ujjain to Udaipur and back with a night in between, is about 666 km of driving either way, so about Rs 6,000 in the sedan plus whatever the operator charges for the driver's night halt, which our page does not publish. If you are coming back anyway, the round trip and the return-km one-way can cost the same on kilometres, and the difference is only the waiting day; ask for both quotes and compare.
A written quote that answers those five points matters more than a low per-km headline. The same checklist applies to any long leg from Ujjain; our Ujjain to Shirdi by road guide uses it for a drive of similar length in the other direction.
The rail option is the Veer Bhumi Chittaurgarh Express (train numbers 19315/19316; some listings show 19330), a Western Railway daily service between Indore and Asarva in Ahmedabad that runs through Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Chittorgarh and Udaipur. The full run is about 775 km with 30 halts over roughly 16 hours 55 minutes; the train originally ran Indore to Udaipur and was extended to Asarva in March 2023. Its halt list and history are on the Wikipedia page for the Veer Bhumi Chittaurgarh Express.
For the Ujjain to Udaipur leg, listings put the journey at roughly nine to ten hours. The only timing opened for this guide is the return direction, where Holidify shows the train leaving Udaipur City at 20:35 and reaching Ujjain Junction at 06:15; check the current timetable for the Ujjain-side departure before you plan around it, and note the train-number discrepancy between listings when you search.
How to choose:
Udaipur City railway station is the main terminus; the Veer Bhumi express also stops at Rana Pratap Nagar on the way in. Maharana Pratap Airport is about 20 km from the city, which matters only if someone in your group is flying out from Udaipur rather than returning with the car. Udaipur, in Rajasthan, was founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II. Lake Pichola and the City Palace, Udaipur beside it are where most first-time visitors head first; Fateh Sagar and Jag Mandir are the other landmarks usually added. A car that has just driven from Ujjain can drop you at the City Palace gate and take the hotel run from there, one practical reason to keep the cab for the day rather than release it at the city limit.
Udaipur facts from Wikipedia's Udaipur article (opened 8 October 2026). For hotels in Udaipur, or for air travel into Ujjain itself, look to the sites that cover those lanes; this guide stays with the road and rail leg between the two cities.
About 333 km on the routing most calculators use (distancebetween2.com measures 332.785 km; Holidify gives 333 km). One planner, Wanderlog, shows 388 km on a different routing, so the figure is route-dependent. The straight-line distance is about 262-263 km.
Plan on six to six and a half hours of driving. distancebetween2.com estimates 6 h 32 min at a 50 km/h average; Holidify shows 5 h 37 min for the reverse leg. Add time for meal stops and any Chittorgarh detour.
Yes. The Veer Bhumi Chittaurgarh Express (19315/19316; some listings show 19330), a Western Railway daily service, runs from Ujjain Junction via Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch and Chittorgarh to Udaipur City. Listings put the leg at about 261 km and roughly nine to ten hours overnight; check the current timetable for departure times.
At our published per-km rates, one-way estimates for 333 km are about Rs 3,000 in a Maruti Dzire or Maruti Ertiga (Rs 9/km), about Rs 5,660 in a Toyota Innova Crysta (Rs 17/km) and about Rs 6,660 in a Force Traveller (Rs 20/km). These exclude tolls, driver allowance and any return-km billing; confirm the final quote when booking.
On road routings that pass Chittorgarh, yes. Tell the operator when you book so the extra kilometres and waiting time are in the quote. The train also halts at Chittaurgarh Junction, but overnight.
